Seems like tradition will not take place this year

From Helldone´s myspace blog

HELLDONE FESTIVAL Takes a Sabbatical

In the year 2010 the Helldone Festival takes a sabbatical. As we all know HIM has taken part in the New Year’s celebrations at the Tavastia Club since 1998, in the last five years as the masters of ceremonies of the Helldone Festival. This here one-off sabbatical will give the members of HIM a well-earned chance to go out and see the fireworks for the first time in 11 years.

The Helldone Festival has brought each year countless HIM fans from all over the world into the dark and cold heart of the Finnish winter. People from places as far away as Mexico and Australia have traveled to the North to witness hand picked selections of Finnish and international bands create that thing we like to call the Helldone Magic. Bands like Cathedral (UK), Amorphis (FIN), Anathema (UK), Von Hertzen Brothers (FIN), Katatonia (SWE) and The 69 Eyes (FIN).

This Helldone Magic will not disappear.

So, take care of one another, and see you next year!

yes, one part of me is sad and dissapointed, but there are some pluses, too

+:

1. i dont have to pay so much money (economical crisis made everything so hard)
2. it shows that HIM is band which members do real music and not just trying to get rich
3. guys are people, too.. so, they will rest and enjoy normal life, so next album and concetrs will be even more perfect

they could, but they dont do it and anyway i dont think that helldone dont bring pretty much money, so even in tavastia it is pretty good source of money to everyone there

and i didnt count money, i just meant that it shows that guys dont play music just for money, so music is really real

Meh, I wasn't gonna go anway.

As for this being the end of the band, somehow I doubt that. Maybe they'll just have a break and come back a few years later. Many bands do that.
However, I doubt they'd do that all secretive and keep everyone guessing.
They probably just wanna see those fireworks. They've got kids now, some of them, and probably wanna spend a nice traditional firework watching new years with them.
I caught a glimpse of my reflection and didn’t recognise my face
I left an note at home explaining how I’m sorry that I left
I just needed to be alone for a while to realise that I’m a mess
I pray that things are better but I won’t hold my breath.

I’m holding out for a saving grace to show me the error of my ways
I really need a change
I’m not a pessimist but sometimes hope is missed or missing
I haven’t felt so fucking drained. I need a break

It all just seems pretty coincidental since their contract with Sire Records has now expired. Cancelling a tour, cancelling Helldone, Screamworks not selling all that well, record contract now up for renewal (or not) ... maybe label support has been discontinued to fund a tour, and Helldone would cost too much to be worth it. Just thinking out loud. My big concern is Sire. If the band doesn't have adequate label support and with these economic times, we may be seeing quite a hiatus for the band which isn't such a bad thing either. What amuses me is the fact that a number of HIM fans are planning to go to Helsinki and celebrate New Year's in front of Ville's home in Munkkiniemi ...

If so, the label doesn't has any serious interest anymore in HIM? I mean, the US tour was pretty decent dates-wise, but in Europe it was rather a quick "hello" than anything else. Maybe with a better promotion in "the rest of the world" things would have been different sales-wise.

Agreed. It's professional suicide to be treating the "rest of the world" as an afterthought. The tunnel vision the HIM organization has maintained toward the U.S. market may eventually backfire on them. The "rest of the world" was once their bread and butter, and it may end up that way again if they aren't able to find adequate U.S. distribution with a new label, should Sire drop them. I'm an American, but I would venture to say that Europe and the rest of the world deserve better.

I've lost overview a while ago, but I've had the impression Venus Doom didn't do too bad - wrong? How could it happen that Sire lost interest, if I got you right? But anyway, whatever happens, it probably happens for a reason. As one door closes, another one opens.
