(Part 2, from the Cobra Bar...)

It was a funny 1,5h gig with a set similar or same like what was already posted. The audience was kinda lame, but at least they made some decent encore shouts, nobody was pushing really badly (apart from a few annoying exceptions), nobody fainted or screamed Villes name in utter delight.

Ville had some feedback problems and at some point was talking to the tech guy about the feedback reaching back to the Doll House, a bar at Große Freiheit, all this technical equipment that costs as much as the Doll House or something.... That's when he was using "fuck" a lot in a not really bad mooded way. He was talking together with Migé about their first gig in Hamburg in the Logo and dedicated "disarm me..." to the approximately 1,5 people from tonights audience, who were there back then.

He was also talking about the Anker - located at the Herbert Strasse, whose jukebox plays 7" and talking about these wicked things they played "wicked games".

The band was in good mood, Migé looking really friendly, Linde and Gas enjoying themselves and at least in the end Burton was laughing as well, couldn't really tell if before. Ville had his eyes closed most of the time, during the encore he looked a bit more around, though. People threw cigarettes on stage and at one point he was thinking about something to say about it, but obviously didn't have a witty comment to make. :D

The encore started with "happy birthday" in finnish, since a girl requested it for her friend, luckily the band didn't drop the other songs like Ville suggested as a joke ;)

Well, that's it so far... Now autumn tour dates please, preferably in Bremen! :p

Paty, I've tried to call you, but it didn't work....

I keep my fingers crossed for you, Paty! This phone call didn't get through at all, unlike my text message some weeks ago. "number couldn't be found" or something. Weird...

Thanks for the review Eve, sounds like you had a good time :)
is it just me or they've (or rather Ville) been having sound tech problems in every gig???

That's what I wonder, too. I mean, the breaks between support and main act are usually quite long (yesterday: 45 minutes), the rowdies run up and down the stage placing towels from one corner to the other and back, then, the band enters the stage and - sound probs. But actually, yesterday the sound was quite clear to the audience (at least at the balcony), the probs might have been only on stage. Anyways chapeau, great gig. Esp. it's always nice to hear the old songs for nostalgical reasons (nothing against the new ones). And to hear Grobi... erm, Valo talk. Some guys could read the telephone book and it would still sound fantastic. All in all, a nice evening, definitely worth the exp. ebay tix and the frozen toes...

Not sure anymore if it was Grover or some other Sesame Street charackter, rather these guys here at 2:33:

But speaking of it, it was the Count, not Grover singing "blue suede shoes" as well ;)

For the ones who haven't been at the gig yesterday: when talking about the feedback problems Ville imitated how he'd heard his voice, like Elvis singing "blue suede shoes".

Actually when talking about grover it was this video coming into my mind:
Probably one of the only melancholic songs in the show ever.

Sorry, off-topic. The gig was great !

Btw. here's a review from the most popular Hamburgian daily paper: http://www.abendblat...n-Wachkoma.html

No surprise, it's in German (and not worth translating it completely). All in all, the author is disappointed and compares the gig to a vigil coma. He criticises nearly everything starting with Ville's look ("emaciated", "one should throw a buttered bread at him instead of panties"), the speed of the song progression ("not more than 10 seconds for applause between the songs", "it seems like the band is on the go and has something better to do later on"), the audience ("lethargic", "bored", "disappointed") and the band in general ("arrogant", "spiritless"). At least he hasn't anything to criticise on Ville's vocal qualities, but also on his announcements ("incomprehensible babbling"). A joke is also the caption (under a press picture of Valo): "Did already better gigs in Hamburg: HIM-Singer Ville Valo".

Maybe he did better gigs, but there have definitely been worse ones. To me it seems like the author had his opinion already made before the gig (and probably already written the article and only put in the setlist). Or maybe he was on a different gig? Or maybe me?

Hooray for exaggerations. 15 minutes of demanding an encore? I didn't stop the time, but an audience can get very merciless when it comes to waiting (I remember a Velvet Revolver performance.... then again, all these still filled beer cups flying on stage were quite entertaining). I thought it was long, too, and I already feared if they wait like two minutes more there wont be anything coming anymore from the audience and therefore maybe no encore. But 15 minutes? Please! Also Migé hiding in the shadow - ridiculous. As for the rest of this rant: everything's subjective, if that's how he got it, Ville being arrogant and whatnot, what can you do. I didn't see it like that. Plus I understood a lot of what he said. So much for not understandable babbling. Still the crowd was kinda lame. If the author considered this to be a bad gig, I'd like to know which concert gets a good review. Also how he defines lethargy.

If I remember the "not understandable babbling" rightly, Ville also announced before the encore that they will play one more song, then leave stage and then come back to play another couple of songs. But of course, the author ignored this. What else should a band do? Show an illuminated ad saying "We are no arrogant assholes and will be back soon"?

Everyone's free in his opinion, but I expected a review on this level more in a gutter paper like MoPo or Bild than in Abendblatt. Well.

There's a short snippet of nothing from the MoPo online, saying the same like ... what's the name actually? There was no author mentioned on Abendblatt. Anyway, she was talking about how they played their hits too soon, like there couldn't be anything expected anymore. That's the problem when people do a review who only know the singles. She could have pointed out the earcandy for the fans, "your sweet 666" and "when love and death embrace", but hey.

and it was funny to see ville not smoking. his voice was better then last time i have seen the band only he forgot the lyrics of his old songs a few times (shame on you! :p)

it was a very nice evening and the little one wasnt kicking so maybe it will be a HIM fan? :p lol

Another Hamburg review, 50:50 from the feeling, and a headline sounding more interesting than the article was (basically just interesting if you understand german):

Ahhh yes, I like this one. Esp. the comparison: "Ville hums like a diesel engine". And the closing rate: "Mr. Valo, we could be friends again." Very placative.

What the fuck...?! I quoted a part of Heidis posting ("very placative"), not my own. In the edit it's the way it should be, but posted it looks like that.
