In February a science teacher , Karen Hipp of Excelsior Middle School in Union , South Carolina was put on administrative leave for allegedly playing songs including HIM's " Join Me in Death " to students during class and downloading several of the tracks for children to take home with them . " These are sixth graders listening to songs about commiting suicide or killing others , " one of the kids parents , who did not want to be identified , told Fox News . " I found it very inappropriate . " At press time , school officials were investigating the charges and said that it was too early for them to comment on the case , but revolver suspects Hipp thought she was teaching the 666th grade .

Yes, it's fair to be warned for this, just as well as a teacher would be punished for forcing them to listen to rap, pop, country if you wish.
I don't see the point in doing such a thing and downloading the tracks for the children. No matter what you'll say, these songs do carry a message that can be easily misunderstood, and, if the point was to inform the students about the issue of suicide or something along the lines, it was done the wrong way.
It is simply not relevant to any teaching material I can think of.

Depends on if that was the main content of a class or not. The way I understand it from that article, she just threw on some HIM while the students were working. I don't see the problem with that. And if a kid is going to kill themselves because a song told them to, the world is at no loss for that. No one is that stupid.

Urgh.. such jokes should be criminalized. 10 years behind bars, minimum. And that's saying something when it's me, with my humour, saying it.
Don't know about the case with Join Me. The parents could be exaggerating (as always). But giving copies of Join Me to pupils gives me the impression that she was planning a charming collective suicide.

It's like a big bad fight that never ends
You know what I'm saying
First I was a soldier
Then I was a rebel
Then a runaway, and I've been running ever since
But it's like everything is in my way,
Everything, even my head, my body...

and probably none of the students she played HIM to doesn't have suicide/killing thoughts. It's just the parents who over-react a bit. :coffee:
